The Ju 88 is considered the best and most
widely used German bomber of WW II. It was a multi-role, twin
engine aircraft, designed to fill the role of schnellbomber,
(‘’fast bomber’’). And at its inception, it could run from many
enemy fighter / interceptor aircraft in the early stages of the
war. It suffered from technical problems during its development
and early operational periods but became one of the most
versatile combat aircraft of the war. Like a number of other Luftwaffe
bombers, it served as a bomber, dive bomber, night fighter,
torpedo bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, heavy fighter and in
the final stages of the war, as a remote controlled flying bomb.
