La Maisonart is a private art gallery opened to the public, owned and managed by artist John Wiseman and me, Lucie Lagueux. Originally from Barrie Ontario, John launched his career as an artist in the early 1970's. After meeting, we moved to Percé in the Gaspé Peninsula. John promptly fell in love with the stunning landscape, abundant wildlife and traditional architecture of the region. As a naturalist and avid outdoor person this was an ideal location for John to establish his studio. In 1978, we bought a heritage house (circa 1845). The house had been sadly neglected for many years and became the classic "fixer-upper". For several years we renovated the old house taking care to preserve as much as we could of its original charm and character. Everything had to be redone, top to bottom: new roof, walls, windows, foundation.... But there was a dream... we wanted our own art gallery. In 1989 the dream became reality and the Maisonart officially opened to the public. This web site is the realization of another dream... presenting our gallery directly to you, the visitor. We hope you take pleasure in surfing through our cyber gallery and that it will inspire you to visit us, in person, in our beautiful Gaspé Peninsula. We offer a wide selection of exclusive original artwork and fine art lithographic and giclée prints. We also exhibit stone sculptures by local artist Roland Nicolas. Our many years of expertise will assure you with an enjoyable and satisfying experience whether it be for advice on custom framing, exhibiting, conservation of / or purchasing fine art . Please contact us to share your comments or your questions about any of the art work featured here. Also, as this site is always a work in progress, it is almost certain to have problematic features, so we invite any critiques or suggestions that might facilitate and simplify the use and navigation of this site. Thank you ~ Merci. Lucie Lagueux, Director About me, Lucie Lagueux: I am originally from Québec City and I graduated as a biologist at Laval University. As a student, I took part in an exchange program and worked one summer as a naturalist at Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in Ontario. That is where I met John. From 1975, when we moved to Percé, I worked as the head naturalist in the federal and then provincial park system for 17 years. Then, for 25 years, I taught biology and nature interpretation at the college in Gaspé. I just retired as of May 2024. I also work together with John to produce the fine art giclée prints that we offer with pride on this site.
